PIEZO NOSE AESTHETICS

The rapid development of technology has started to positively affect the developments in the field of health. Piezo surgery, which was previously used in brain, orthopedics and maxillofacial surgery, is now frequently used in rhinoplasty operations. The process of breaking and shaping the nasal bones, which is indispensable for rhinoplasty operations, is nowadays most commonly performed with tools such as hammers, rasps and chisels. The most common problem encountered after bone cutting with these tools is swelling and bruising around the eyes. The reason for swelling and bruising is the damage to the vessels in this area while cutting the nasal bones and the resulting bleeding.  Since Mersin piezo surgery is only specific to bone tissue, it does not cause any damage to soft tissue and vessels during the procedure. And in this way, the possibility of postoperative bruising and swelling is negligible.

Piezo rhinoplasty takes its name from the name of the device used in this method. The procedure performed with the help of this device is called ultrasonic rhinoplasty with piezo technique. In our country, few surgeons use this method in rhinoplasty operations.

How is Rhinoplasty Performed with Piezo Technique?
Piezo rhinoplasty is performed with the aim of shaping the nasal bone without breaking it with the help of ultrasonic oscillations in order to precisely correct the troubled nasal bones during the rhinoplasty operation. Thanks to the piezo rhinoplasty technique, it is aimed to reshape the nose without damaging the soft tissues, nerves and vessels in the nose during the operation. Compared to traditional rhinoplasty operations, bruising and swelling after the operation performed with this technique is almost minimized. The risk of error that may occur in rhinoplasty operations performed with this method is much lower. At the same time, while minimal cutting can be done with this device, mucosal damage that may occur can be taken under control. Another of the most basic features of this device is that it allows the surgeon to work more precisely and perform faster operations. It can be easily adjusted with its multifunctional foot pedal and touch screen for complete control throughout the operation. This technique provides flexibility to the surgeon during the operation, while at the same time providing a faster and easier recovery process with less damage to the patient. This operation can be performed in two ways, open and closed. Mostly open technique is preferred. Generally, this operation is performed under general anesthesia for patient comfort. The operation can take approximately 2 - 3 hours.

What are the Advantages of Piezo Rhinoplasty?

  • Shaping is performed only on the nasal bone by protecting the tissues around the bone. More reliable results are obtained compared to traditional rhinoplasty operations.
  • Since the sound waves are focused only on the bone tissue, it does not cause any damage to the soft tissue.
  • Since there is no traumatic effect on soft tissue and vessels, postoperative swelling, edema and bruising are usually not seen on the nose and face.
  • Recovery time is faster than other rhinoplasty techniques.
  • There is usually almost no pain after the operation.
  • It is more reliable than traditional rhinoplasty methods.
  • It provides ease of use for the surgeon.
  • The satisfaction rate after Piezo Rhinoplasty is much higher than other techniques.

In Which Situations Is Rhinoplasty with Piezo Method Applied?

Arched nose

Narrow or wide nose

Nasal tip not in the desired shape

Difficulty breathing in the nose

Congenitally malformed nose shape

Crooked nose to the left or right

Deformities in the nose caused by accident or trauma

The nose that could not be brought to the desired shape despite the previous nose operation

Recovery Process After Operation with Piezo Rhinoplasty
As with other rhinoplasty operations, the postoperative recovery process may vary from patient to patient. After the operation, the patient may need to rest in the hospital for one night. The patient is discharged the next day. At the end of the operation, a thermoplastic splint is placed on the nose and silicone tampons are placed in the nostrils. Although the possibility of swelling and bruising after surgery is almost negligible, it will be useful to apply ice compresses for the first 24 hours as a precaution. Pain is generally not expected. As with any operation, a slight tingling is normal. During the recovery period after the operation, the patient should avoid heavy sports activities, brisk running, exposure to sunlight and movements that will create pressure. If glasses are worn, taking a break for a while contributes to the healing process.

Who Can Piezo Nose Surgery Be Performed?
It can be applied to patients over the age of 18 who have completed their bone development, are not satisfied with the shape of their nose, have congenital nasal deformities, have nasal congestion problems, and whose general health condition does not pose a problem for this operation. The decision to apply the piezo technique is made by the surgeon who will perform the operation together with the patient's preferences, taking into account the patients' nasal structure, skin structure and the procedures to be performed during the operation.
