Dermal Filler
WHAT IS DERMAL FILLER?
Dermal filler treatments are non-surgical aesthetic procedures that involve injecting substances beneath the skin, which can be applied to various parts of our body. These treatments have become increasingly popular in recent years due to their ease of application and short procedure duration. As we age and due to genetic factors, our body experiences a decrease in fat tissue and structural tissues like collagen, leading to volume loss, fine lines, wrinkles, and sagging in many areas. One of the most commonly used methods in the field of medical aesthetics, both globally and in our country, is the use of hyaluronic acid-based fillers to correct deformities.
Hyaluronic acid is naturally present in our bodies, making it a safe option for most people without causing allergic reactions. Additionally, hyaluronic acid has the ability to hold water up to 1000 times its volume, allowing it to deliver moisture to cells and plump the skin.
Which Areas of the Face Can Dermal Fillers Be Applied to?
- Lip augmentation for volume and fullness
- Nasal augmentation to correct shape irregularities
- Under-eye filler to correct hollowness, dark circles, and bags
- Chin augmentation to correct volume loss or shape irregularities
- Cheek augmentation to add volume and contour
- Nasolabial fold correction to reduce lines from the nose to the mouth
- Jawline enhancement to define the jawline
- Temple filler to correct wrinkles and hollowing

How is Dermal Filler Application Performed?
About 15-20 minutes before the procedure, anesthetic cream is applied to the areas to be treated to numb them. Additionally, many modern filler materials contain local anesthetic agents, making the procedure generally painless. Using a small injector, filler is injected into the desired area or areas. The duration of the procedure varies depending on the anatomy of the area to be treated, typically lasting about 15-20 minutes. The duration may increase with the number of areas treated. The effect of the filler is immediately visible after the procedure.
How Long Does the Effect of Dermal Filler Last?
The effect of temporary fillers can last between 6 to 18 months, depending on the filler material used, the amount applied, and the area treated. Semi-permanent fillers can last between 12 to 24 months.
Precautions During the Healing Process After Dermal Filler Application:
- Avoid using blood-thinning medications like aspirin for one week before and after the procedure.
- Sleep on your back with your head elevated for the first three days after the procedure.
- Drink plenty of water after the procedure.
- Avoid showering for 2-3 hours after the procedure, and keep the skin dry.
- Avoid going to a steam room or sauna after the procedure.
- Refrain from engaging in strenuous exercise for a few days after the procedure.
- Avoid consuming hot beverages for a few hours after the procedure.
- Refrain from massaging the treated area or engaging in vigorous activities.
Are There Any Side Effects of Dermal Filler Applications?
- Mild swelling and bruising may occur after the procedure due to the filler material's water-retaining properties.
- Minor bleeding at the injection sites may occur due to the use of small needles, but it typically resolves quickly, and needle marks are not permanent.
- Some individuals may experience slight bruising after the procedure due to both the filler material and the injection, but it usually subsides shortly.
- Apart from these minor side effects, there are generally no other side effects or reactions to dermal filler applications. However, if the filler material used is of poor quality or if the person performing the procedure lacks sufficient experience, there is a risk of allergic reactions and infections. When performed by an experienced professional, the risk of adverse outcomes from filler applications is minimal. As long as the dosage of the procedure is not exaggerated, satisfactory results can be achieved.
