WHAT IS BOTOX?
Botulinum toxin (Botox) application is the temporary prevention of the transmission of substances in the nerve endings of a muscle to prevent its movement. Initially used for medical purposes, Botox application has been used in aesthetic procedures over time to address skin wrinkles caused by factors such as aging, facial expressions like frowning, smiling, anger, surprise, as well as genetic factors. It is one of the safest and easiest methods to eliminate wrinkles and lines on the face without surgery, making it a commonly preferred non-surgical aesthetic procedure. In recent years, Botox applications for aesthetic purposes have been widely used, and they have also been safely used in various medical treatments for many years.

How is the Botox Procedure Performed?
The area to be treated with Botox is sterilized before the procedure. Approximately 15 minutes before the procedure, a local anesthetic cream is applied to the treatment area to numb it. Botox is injected into the desired areas under the skin using a fine-tipped injector. The number of doses to be applied may vary depending on the needs of the area. The application time is usually very short, around 10-15 minutes.
When Does Botox Take Effect and How Long Does It Last?
The effect of the application begins to be seen within 3-5 days after the procedure. The full effect is usually observed within 10-15 days after the application. During this period, the lines and wrinkles treated gradually begin to fade. The duration of the effect varies from person to person, depending on the area treated, the dose used during the procedure, and the individual's response. The effect of the procedure can last between 4 to 6 months. Regularly repeated Botox applications extend the effectiveness and duration of the treatment.
Is Botox Treatment Painful?
Thanks to the anesthesia cream applied to the area before the procedure, there is no pain or discomfort during the procedure. Applying a cold compress after the procedure helps the person relax.
Precautions After Botox Treatment
- Do not rub or massage the treated area within the first 24 hours after the procedure.
- Avoid sports activities after the procedure as they can increase swelling.
- Avoid going to hot places such as steam rooms and saunas on the day of the procedure and the following day, as it can increase swelling.
- Avoid getting skincare treatments on the day of the procedure. Wait at least 1 week before getting skincare treatments.
- If Botox is applied around the mouth, it is not recommended to undergo dental treatment for 1 week after the procedure.
