Fat Injection
FAT INJECTION
Fat injection, also known as fat grafting or fat transfer, is a cosmetic surgery procedure performed to fill in gaps or depressions that occur due to the reduction of existing fat tissue under the skin, typically caused by aging or genetic factors. Fats are tissues that serve as a type of natural filler in the body. This procedure involves taking fat tissue from a specific area of the patient's own body and injecting it into the targeted area to correct the deformity. Similar to other filler applications, fat injection can be performed to enlarge a shadow, eliminate deep wrinkles, fill in hollow areas on the temples and cheeks, enhance the jawline and cheekbones, reduce the appearance of scars, and improve body contours. Fat injection is not limited to the facial area but can also be applied to various areas of the body to provide a livelier, fuller, and more aesthetic appearance. The fat tissue to be injected is typically harvested from the abdomen or hip area.
How is Fat Injection Surgery Performed?
Before the operation, the areas to be treated are marked. These markings are usually made in consultation with the patient and the doctor. The distribution of fat in the patient's body is determined during examination, and the area from which fat will be harvested may vary based on the distribution of fat. A tiny entry point, usually a few millimeters in size, is identified in the area from which fat will be harvested, and then, using a thin-tipped needle called a cannula, the fat tissue is extracted. The harvested fat cells are purified to remove foreign materials and then injected into the predetermined areas. The procedure can be performed under local or general anesthesia, depending on the extent and nature of the procedure. The duration of the operation varies depending on the specifics of the procedure and typically lasts around 30-60 minutes.
Does the Donor Site Experience Thinning?
No. Since only small amounts of fat are harvested, there will be no noticeable difference in the donor site. Therefore, this is not a concern during the postoperative period.
Will There be Scarring After the Operation?
There will be no scarring since no incisions are made. The tiny entry points made with the cannulas will heal on their own over time, leaving no visible scars.
Recovery After Fat Injection Surgery
Strenuous physical activities should be avoided for at least one week after the operation.
Swelling and bruising may occur after the operation but will gradually diminish after the first week.
Cold compresses should be applied to the treated area to reduce swelling.
Smoking is not recommended for at least 3 weeks after the operation, as smoking can affect the amount of fat loss.
The patient should ideally sleep with the head elevated to promote healing. Sleeping on the back or sides is recommended, while sleeping on the face should be avoided.
Mild pain can be managed with medications prescribed by the doctor, facilitating a more comfortable recovery process.
