CHIN SURGERY (MENTOPLASTY)

Chin surgery (Mentoplasty) is a surgical procedure performed to change the appearance of the chin for individuals who are dissatisfied with their chin appearance and aim to make their chin more harmonious with their face. Widely performed on both women and men today, this operation is an important aesthetic procedure often preferred by individuals who want a more proportionate and aesthetic facial structure. Before chin surgery, it is essential to examine whether the patient has any biting or chewing problems. If the individual has chewing and biting problems, an evaluation by an expert orthodontist and dentist is necessary. During the evaluation of chin appearance before Chin Surgery (Mentoplasty) operation, cephalometric X-rays are taken, and the face is analyzed. The aesthetic proportions of the chin with other areas of the face are carefully evaluated. The aim of this operation is to change the shape of the chin more aesthetically. If there are other operations desired to be performed on the face, they can be performed simultaneously with this operation.

How is Chin Surgery (Mentoplasty) Performed?
In patients with a small chin structure, fillers can be applied to the chin tip, and implants can also be added. Implants may require the placement of silicone or a bony material called medpor. The preferences for these procedures should be made in line with the recommendations of the surgeon performing the operation. This operation, which can be performed under local or general anesthesia, can be done through an incision made inside the mouth or through a submental (under the chin) incision. The duration of the operation varies depending on the procedure to be performed on the patient's chin and generally takes about 1-2 hours.

Recovery After Chin Surgery (Mentoplasty)
If the operation is not performed with another treatment, the patient can be discharged on the same day. The stitches placed inside the mouth dissolve on their own, and there is no scarring. Swelling, tightness around the chin, and pain may be experienced for about 1 week after the operation. Pain relievers prescribed by the doctor can help the patient have a more comfortable recovery process. Temporary numbness may also be observed in the lower lip for a short period, which is not a permanent condition. Oral hygiene is crucial during the first week after the operation to prevent infection of the stitches inside the mouth. Liquid foods should be consumed for the first 3 days. The patient can resume their daily life after 1 week of the operation. Stitches inside the mouth and swelling around the chin gradually improve after the first week.

Is There an Age Limit for Chin Surgery (Mentoplasty)?
In chin surgery operations, it is preferred to be performed on individuals after they have completed their bone and tissue development, usually after the age of 18. The upper age limit for the operation is determined by whether the individual has any health problems that may hinder this operation.
